Chai Nat Province:
Chai Nat Province is a small quiet and
tranquil region situated on the eastern banks of Chao Phraya River. It was used
as a military base in ancient times. Chai Nat Bird Park is the most popular tourist
attraction in this region. This park houses almost 100 species of birds who
live and nest in trees and caves. There are several ancient Buddhist temples
and shrines that are known for their exquisite woodcarvings, beautiful stuccos
and intricate murals. The most outstanding among these are Wat Phra Borommathat
Worawihan, Wat Thammamun, Wat Intharam and Wat Karuna, which were built near
the Chao Phraya River. There are a few temples located near the Noi River and
these include Wat Mahathat and Wat Thammikawat.
One of the several significances of this region is
the Khuean Chao Phraya. This was the first dam built in Thailand for
irrigational purposes. This dam is famous for different varieties of
waterfowls.
