Kalasin Province - Thailand Tourist Attractions :

          Kalasin Province is an ancient province situated in the northeastern part of Thailand. This province is better recognized for its traditional Pong Lang music and Jurassic era fossils. Geographically, the entire province is a hilly terrain.

          Historians and tourists can have a splendid time at Kalasin. The largest assortment of dinosaur fossils is located in Phu Kum Khayo. Archaeologists have excavated numerous whole fossils of Sauropods that probably existed some 120 million years ago. Another ancient city located near Kalasin is Fa Daet Song Yang. Excavations have revealed several remnants and artifacts of monuments and temples that provide a link of this region to the prehistoric period.

          Built across the Pao and Huai Yang Rivers, is the Lam Pao Dam. This dam is a popular destination for recreation and adventure sports. Boating and rafting are permitted on the river waters. The irresistible surroundings on the banks of the river are worth a visit.  This is an important fish-breeding zone. 

          Principal agricultural crops in Kalasin Province are sticky rice, manioc and sugarcane. People in this region locally produce high quality Phrae Wa silk. Other popular products include bamboo baskets and cloth bags. This land is a culturally rich province as is evident from its various festivals. Important among them are Pong Long and Red Cross fair and Wichit Phrae Wa Silk Festival.

          Kalasin Province is 519 kilometers away from Bangkok. The most convenient means of travel to Kalasin is to take a direct bus from Bangkok’s Mochit 2 Bus Terminal or hire a car from Bangkok. Thai Airways operate flights from Bangkok to Khon Kaen. From here, tourists can board a bus and reach Kalasin. On the other hand, visitors can even get on operated from Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong Railway Station to Khon Kaen, which is located 78 kilometers away from Kalasin.
