Located behind the Wat Phra Kaeo is the Kamphaeng Phet National Museum. The museum is located amidst the ruins of ancient city of Kamphaeng Phet inside the Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park.
Opened during 1970, Kamphaeng Phet National museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts that were unearthed from the archaeological excavations conducted in and around the Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park. Many of these provided insights into art and architecture that were prevalent during the Sukhothai period. Apart from this, the museum also houses collections from the neighboring provinces and regions of Kamphaeng Phet, including decorative terracotta images from old temple and the Buddha images from the ancient Sukhothai period.
