Widely acclaimed as the
educational and technology hub of Thailand, Pathum Thani Province is located on the low
alluvial plains of Chao Phraya River. This region is located on the northern
side of Bangkok. Quite a number of universities, research agencies and
industrial parks are spread over the entire region. Besides this, Pathum Thani
is also a historical place containing plenty of canals and orange plantations.
The National Science Museum
Located on Klong canal is most popular destination in Pathum Thani. Muai Thai
Institute established by the World Muai Thai Council aims to promote Thai folk
arts of self-defense. For those who are
interested in recreational activities, Dream World is the most sought
destination. It is a large amusement park that has a European style plaza,
miniature land of major world legends, and offer exciting rides, shows and
games.
There are quite a number of
ancient Buddhist shrines and temples in this region that are known for their
intricate mural paintings and exquisite woodcarving. Wat Sing is a Mon-style
temple that houses Luang Pho To, Ayutthaya style gold covered Buddha image in a
rare mara posture and Luang Pho Phet, a reclining Buddha image. Another most
important shrine in this region is Wat Phai Lom located on the eastern banks of
Chao Phraya River. Different migratory birds including Asian open-bills, black-capped
Kingfishers, the spot-billed Pelicans and black-headed ibis flock here for laying
eggs.
Talat Thai, Thailand’s biggest
wholesale and retail market is located in Pathum Thani. Other popular places of
interest in the region include the Southeast Asian Ceramics Museum that houses
several ancient, unique and valuable ceramics, the Supreme Artist Hall and the
city pillar.
The local delicacies and products
of Pathum Thani are quite popular among tourists. Some of these are the Rangsit
boat noodle and Spicy Kung Ten that are served in many restaurants. Pathum Thani
is a major producer of tangerine in Thailand.
Pathum Thani is 46 kilometers
away from Bangkok. Tourists can hire a car from Bangkok and reach the place.
The State Transport Corporation operates a number of buses from Bangkok to
Pathum Thani.
