Situated on the banks of Mae Klong River, Ratchaburi Province is an
ancient province known for its historical sites and natural attractions.
The most popular tourist destination in Ratchaburi is the Damnoen Saduak
Floating Market. A wide range of products including fruits, vegetables and
freshly cooked noodles are sold on vendor boats. Women wearing beautiful straw hats generally paddle these boats.
This market has been in existence for a long time. Visitors can take a boat
ride to go round the market and value its uniqueness.
There are quite a number of
ancient caves in Ratchaburi. Prominent among these are Tham Chomphon, Tham Khao
Bin and Tham Ruesi Khao Ngu that have beautiful stalactite and stalagmite
formations in various shapes. The two caves located inside Khao Chong Phran
hill are thought to be home to approximately 3 million bats.
Another important place to visit
in Ratchaburi is the Bo Khleung Hot Spring. The mineral rich water coming out
from these hot springs is believed to cure skin ailments. Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, Wat
Khongkharam, Wat Khanon and Wat Muang are some of the ancient and most
illustrious Buddhist temples built on the banks of Mae Klong River. These
shrines are known for their exemplary architecture, Thai sculpture, intricate
carvings, fine mural paintings depicting life of Lord Buddha and beautifully
decorated stuccos.
Ratchaburi Province is a major producer of
dragon design water jars in Thailand. Glazed ceramic wares and jars made in
this province are highly popular. Other favorite local products of this region
are grapes and Tin Chok weaving fabrics.
This riverside province is 80
kilometers away from Bangkok. Ratchaburi Province is equally connected by road and rail.
Air-conditioned and non air-conditioned buses are available daily from
Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal. Tourists can even board daily trains operated
from Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong Station and Noi Railway Station. This is the most
favored destination amongst locals and tourists for a day trip. They can hire a
car from Bangkok and reach Ratchaburi. Accommodation facilities are available
