northern cuisines is an ideal holiday destination.
For tourists who are on a look
out for some adrenalin gushing adventure, there are different forms of
adventure sports available. Trekking on foot or on Elephant back is quite
common. The challenging trekking paths on the mountain terrains tempt tourists
to explore its peaks and forests. Since
there are a lot of rivers and streams flowing throughout the province there is a good opportunity for rafting using
bamboo or rubber rafts. Popular routes for rafting include Mae Kok, Mae Chaem,
and Mae Tuen rivers. All these rivers flow through the lush forests and hill
tribe settlements.
Other forms of adventure sports
such as go-karting, Jungle reviving is also common. One can even get a bird’s
eye view of the region through an exciting sightseeing in the air by boarding a
micro-light craft. Nature lovers have a wonderful option of bird watching at
Doi Inthanon and Doi Suthep.
There are over 300 hotels,
resorts, guesthouses, hostels and apartments available. The rates vary from 200
baht per night to over 20,000 baht per night. Guesthouses and mid-range hotels
are located along Charoen Prathet Road, Charoen Rat Road, Tha Phae Gate and
Huay Kaew Road. There are ordinary, 2nd class and 1st class air-conditioned
buses leaving for Chiang Mai from daily from the Bangkok's Northern Bus
Terminal. Domestic airlines including Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways operate
several flights daily between Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
