Located in the northeast part of
the country, Loei Province is one of the remarkable tourist destinations in Thailand.
Better known for its spectacular natural beauty and unique tradition and
culture, Loei is a year round destination.
Loei Province offers tourists with several
astonishing wonders of nature. This region consists of many national parks
famous for their lush green forests, observation points, impressive mountains,
glorious waterfalls, gushing streams and interesting wildlife. The most prominent among
the national parks is the Phu Kradeung National Park. Lush and fertile, this park is the home to
many varieties of animals and plants. Pha Nok Aen, a high-altitude observation point in
Phu Kradeung National Park offers a breathtaking view of Crimson Sunrise. The
other important parks are the Na Haeo National Park, Phu Ruea National Park,
and Nam Nao National Park. Jungle trekking and overnight camping is permitted
in these forests.
A dinner in a bamboo raft amidst gushing waters, beautiful mountains
and lush forests is truly a lifetime experience. Upper Huai Nam Man and Huai
Krathing Reservoir offer tourists with one such memorable dinner.
Loei region is famous for its
fruit orchards and flowers. Some of the prominent ones are Siam Phu Ruea Orange
Farm producing Shogun oranges, Sanya Mushroom Farm producing Shiitake
mushrooms, Chateau de Loei Winery and Vineyard and Ban Nong Bong Plant Market.
Phu Ruea High Altitude Agricultural Research Station promotes the agriculture
of several rare exotic flora including African violets, hydrangeas, petunias and phlox. They also aid farmers in
growing various cash crops such as strawberry, macadamia, Chinese chestnuts,
Chinese pears and grapes using latest technology. Khamnuan nursery is another
beautiful place where hanging petunia and Christmas trees are grown in vast
areas.
Loei Province is located 520 kilometers from Bangkok city. Both air-conditioned
and non air-conditioned buses depart from Bangkok’s Northern Bus Terminal
(Mochit 2 Bus Terminal) to Loei every day. Regular trains are also available
from Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong Railway Station upto Udon Thani, from where one
needs to take a connecting bus up to Loei. Tourists can even take a flight from
Bangkok upto Phetchabun, Udon Thani or Khon Kaen from where they can take a bus
to Loei.
