Hor Kaew Mukdahan
| Hor Kaew Mukdahan is popularly known as Mukdahan Towers among visitors. The tower was constructed in 1996 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of King Bhumibol's accession to the throne. |
|
Hor Kaew Mukdahan stands over 65 meters and affords a full 360 degree view of Mukdahan, Mekong River and over parts of Laos. This observation tower has 7 floors and each floor has something different to offer the visitors.
The first floor is entirely for arts and culture. It showcases beautiful antique pieces of Thai arts and tools. You can also see a collection of bank notes which have been procured from most countries of the world.
The second floor is devoted to showing the history and culture of the eight ethnic tribes that live in Mukdahan. The tribes are Tai Kha, Tai Kha Soe, Tai Kha Lerng, Isan People, Tai Yor, Tai Saek, Tai Kula and Phu Tai. You can learn a lot of about these tribes by just visiting Hor Kaew Mukdahan.
The third floor to the fifth is nothing but the pillar of the tower. However, there is a small deck on the fifth floor with 3 gongs that you can ring to attract good luck to yourself.
It is the sixth floor which is the most popular as this is where the 360 degree observation deck is present. The deck is enclosed in glass and you can also admire a few artifacts that are displayed around it.
Do not miss the seventh floor as this is where you can see a large Buddha image casted in silver in a meditation posture. This image is known as Phra Buddhanavamingmongkol. In addition, the seventh floor also has a Buddha image for each day of the week.
