Phu Sa Dok Bua National Park
| Mukdahan Province of Thailand in the northeastern region is blessed with 18 forest parks and wildlife reserves. One such park that is worth a visit is Phu Sa Dok Bua Nationa Park. The park is spread across three provinces, namely Mukdahan, Yasothon and Amnat Charoen. It covers a total area of 321 square kilometers and was established in December 1992. |
Phu Sa Dok Bua National Park is blessed with lush green forest and natural beauty ranging from picturesque views from the mountain top, awe-inspiring rocks, meadows of wild flowers and the mountaintop lotus, which the locals calls Mountain of Lotus in Thai language.
The overall topography of the park is mountainous with mountain ranges in the northwest and southeast having an average elevation of around 450 meters above sea level. The highest peak in the Phu Sa Dok Bua National Park is Phu Krasae at a height of 491 meters above sea level. The mountain ranges of the park are sources for many streams like Huai Thom and Huai Kan Lueang, which feed the plain around the park. Basically the park comprises of different kinds of forests and massive rock terraces, which are called Dan in the local dialect.
Phu Sa Dok Bua National Park is covered with mixed deciduous and dry evergreen forests which are home to barking deer, wild boars, hare, monkeys, porcupine and mouse deer among others. You can also see different species of birds like pheasant and red jungle fowl.
The beautiful scenery afforded by the park and its rock formation keep attracting visitors over and over again. In the rainy season the huge rock terrace is a field of all kinds of wild flowers, a sight that is truly amazing. You can also camp at Phu Pha Hom, which is at an elevation of 366 meters and gives a panoramic view of the Phu Pha Taem Mountain Range. Of course, no visit to the Phu Sa Dok Bua National Park will be complete without a visit to Phu Sa Dok Bua mountain, which is at an elevation of 423 meters. The mountain has 11 natural rock pools which are around 3 meters wide and have lotuses growing in them.
