Located
in the north-central part of Thailand, Phitsanulok Province is an interesting tourist
destination. This region is ideal for visitors who want to explore the lower
north Thailand. Phitsanulok, also called as Song Kwae City, is a historical
region stretching on the banks of Meanam Nan. Phitsanulok is blessed with extraordinary natural splendor
accompanied with high mountain ranges, parks and exotic waterfalls. Maenam Kwoi
Nan River runs through the region making it an agriculturally fertile zone.
Archaeological excavations have dated back this region to 2000 to 4000 years
old. This region was a politically strategic location for various Thai rulers.
The most important tourist destination in this region is
the Chan Palace. This palace is the birthplace of King Naresuan The Great.
There are a number of shrines and temples in Phitsanulok, which include Shrine
of King Naresuan The Great, Ratburana Temple, Nang Phaya Temple, Chula Mani
Temple, Chedi Yot Thong Temple and Aranyik Temple. Phra Si Mahathat Temple is
another major attraction in this region. It houses the famous Phra Phutthachinnarat, the largest and the most
magnificent Buddhist image in Thailand.
Phitsanulok Province is widely acclaimed for its
abundant natural glory. It has some of the famous national parks of the
country, which include Thung Salaeng Luang National Park, Sakunothayan Botanical Garden,
Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park, Kaeng Chet Khwae National Park, Namtok Chat
Trakan National Park and Phu Soi Dao National Park. The region is a treat for
adventure tourists. Overnight camps, swimming, waterfalls, rock climbing and
trekking are major adventure activities. The parks are rich with lush green
forests, incredible sceneries, stunning waterfalls, steep mountain cliffs, dense
pine trees and several animal and floral species. The principal adventure sport
in this region is white water rafting along the Maenam Kek, which is truly an
unforgettable experience.
Phitsanulok Province is connected with Bangkok through road, rail
and air. It is located at a distance of 337 kilometers from Bangkok. Tourists
can hire a car from Bangkok and reach Phitsanulok through two different routes.
